Communicating feelings can be one of the hardest things to do.

Sometimes how we feel is hard to put in words.

The best way to communicate feelings is you use this classic starter:

"I feel _____ when (you, she, he, they, it(s) or I."

Using this clear statement does the following:

  1. Makes you accountable for your feelings.

  2. Makes you get clarity on the emotion you are feeling: (is it sad, angry, frustrated, confused etc.?)

  3. Gets the root of your emotion (why do I feel this way?)

The next step once you've communicated your feelings whether it be to someone or to yourself, you must communicate, why it makes you feel that way & what you'd like in the future.

For example, if your business partner is always late to prospective client meetings you don't like it because you are afraid it makes you all's company look unprofessional; hence, lose possible business (future profits) this is how you can use this handy way to communicate your feelings:

"I feel upset when you come to our business meetings late because it can hinder prospective clients as taking us seriously and choosing other competitors because we look unprofessional. I would like for you to try to make a conscious effort to being on time at our meetings to ensure we are prepared, ready and polished for prospective clients."

While we know communicating negative feelings is important, it is also just as important to communicate positive feels as well using this format because it is a clear way to affirm behavior and actions that offer positive results.

All in all, communicating your feelings is one of your greatest assets in producing relationships that are deeply connected, build trust and that can embark on the possibilities.
